Function Documentation

char* explain_tempnam_on_error ( const char *  dir,
const char *  prefix 
)

The explain_tempnam_on_error function is used to call the tempnam(3) system call. On failure an explanation will be printed to stderr, obtained from the explain_tempnam(3) function.

Parameters:
dirThe dir, exactly as to be passed to the tempnam(3) system call.
prefixThe prefix, exactly as to be passed to the tempnam(3) system call.
Returns:
The value returned by the wrapped tempnam(3) system call.
Example:
This function is intended to be used in a fashion similar to the following example:
 char *result = explain_tempnam_on_error(dir, prefix);
 if (!result)
 {
     ...cope with error
     ...no need to print error message
 }
